Blackjack rules XVI

If a ‘shoe’ version of blackjack game is in progress where the players are not allowed to handle their cards and the face up cards they are dealt remain on the game table at all times, game decisions like hitting or standing must be indicated to the dealer via some specific hand movements. This calls for the player to know all the hand gestures and their meaning properly before going in the game so that he may not make any gesture by mistake and end up with a choice of action that he did not intend.

So, the player must tap behind his two cards to communicate his wish to hit. Now if on receiving the third card he gets busted with his hand value exceeding 21, the dealer will confiscate his bet amount and take away his cards from the game table. In case the player wants to stand and lock his hand value, he should only wave his ands in a horizontal fashion over his cards.

In the more common face down games, where the initial two cards the player receives are hole cards, he handles the cards and takes them in his hand. If he wants to hit he needs to scrape the cards against the game table that would indicate his wish to draw the third card. By the rules, the player cannot touch the third card dealt face up. If his hand has busted, he is required to reveal his hole cards by putting them on the table for the dealer to see, who would then collect the bet and discard his hand. Now, if the player wants to stand he must tuck his hole cards beneath the chips he had betted to show he wants no more card. But by the rules, he cannot touch the chips he has betted and put inside the circle. So he cannot pick up the bet, put the cards beneath and place the bet on them. He can only slide the cards dexterously under the chips without upsetting the stack.
